Skool notifications not working — the troubleshooting checklist

On Android especially, aggressive battery management kills background processes silently. iOS has its own quirks. Here's the exact fix order.

Common causes of broken Skool notifications

Across thousands of Skool notifications not working complaints, the patterns:

  • Aggressive battery management on Android (Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei especially) kills the Skool app background process. App can't receive push notifications when killed.
  • iOS notification permissions revoked without you noticing. Common after iOS updates that prompt for re-permission.
  • App not opened in 30+ days. Apple and Google both reduce push reliability for apps you haven't used recently.
  • Notification settings turned off inside Skool itself — often by accident in account settings.
  • Browser web push permission revoked in browser settings.
  • Stale push token after long offline periods — log out / log in fixes it.
  • VPN or restrictive network blocking Apple's APNs or Google's FCM servers (rare but real).

Note: Skool's push delivery itself is reliable. When notifications fail in volume, the issue is almost always device-side.

Android fixes — in priority order

Step 1: Settings → Apps → Skool → Notifications. Confirm notifications are on and all categories are enabled.

Step 2: Settings → Apps → Skool → Battery → set to Unrestricted (or equivalent on your phone). The default Optimised setting on most Androids will kill the Skool background process.

Step 3: Settings → Apps → Skool → Mobile data → ensure Background data is on. Some users disable this for data savings without realising it kills push.

Step 4: For Samsung specifically: Settings → Battery and device care → App power management → Sleeping apps. If Skool is in the Sleeping apps list, remove it. Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → Background usage limits → ensure Skool is not in Sleeping or Deep sleeping categories.

Step 5: For Xiaomi / MIUI: Settings → Apps → Skool → Autostart → enable. Settings → Apps → Skool → Battery saver → No restrictions. MIUI's battery management is the most aggressive in the Android ecosystem.

Step 6: Force-stop and reopen the Skool app to refresh the push token.

Step 7: If still failing, log out and log back in. This re-registers your push token with Skool's servers.

iOS fixes — in priority order

Step 1: Settings → Notifications → Skool. Confirm Allow Notifications is on. Confirm Banners, Sounds, Badges are on if you want all three.

Step 2: Inside the Skool app: Settings (top-right) → Notifications. Confirm in-app notification settings are not muting categories.

Step 3: Check Focus modes (Settings → Focus). If you're in Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Work, or any custom Focus, Skool may be filtered. Add Skool to your Allowed Apps in the relevant Focus.

Step 4: Check screen-time / parental controls (if applicable). Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions can block notifications.

Step 5: Force-quit the Skool app (swipe up to app switcher, swipe Skool away) and reopen. Refreshes the push token.

Step 6: If still failing, log out and log back in. This re-registers your push token with Apple's APNs.

Web (browser) push fixes

If you're getting Skool push notifications via browser (desktop Chrome / Firefox / Edge):

Step 1: Open skool.com. Click the lock icon in the address bar → check site permissions. Notifications should be Allow. If Block, change to Allow and refresh.

Step 2: Browser settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Notifications. Find skool.com in the list. Ensure it's allowed.

Step 3: System notification settings: macOS System Settings → Notifications → Chrome (or your browser). Ensure notifications are allowed at the OS level too.

Step 4: Disable any browser extensions that block notifications (some privacy extensions do).

Step 5: Try a different browser to isolate whether it's a browser-specific issue.

If notifications are still broken after all fixes

If you've worked through device-side fixes and notifications still don't reach you:

  • Reinstall the app. Sometimes the simplest fix. Uninstall, reinstall, log in. Refreshes everything.
  • Check Skool's status page (status.skool.com if available) for known outages. Push delivery occasionally hiccups during platform-wide issues.
  • Email support@skool.com with: device model, OS version, app version, when notifications stopped working, what you've already tried. Skool's support can verify push delivery on their end.
  • As a workaround, enable email notifications in Skool account settings. Email notifications use different infrastructure and rarely break in the same way.

For owners managing communities, missed notifications can mean missed cancellations, missed DMs from members, missed comments. Pair with operational tooling that doesn't depend on push for critical events.

Operations tooling — not depending on Skool's notifications alone

If you're an owner and Skool's push notifications are unreliable for you, you can offload critical-event awareness to a separate operations layer.

tools4skool is a Chrome extension + dashboard that monitors your community independently. It catches new members, cancellations, comments, and DMs in real time and can fire its own alerts to Slack, email, or other channels. Auto DM Sequences fire even when you're not watching the Skool tab. Churn Saver fires within 60 seconds of cancellation regardless of whether your phone got the push.

Free forever (1 sequence, 20 DMs/day, 1 account). Paid from $29/month.

Stop leaving DMs, churn, and revenue on the table.

tools4skool plugs the holes Skool ships with. Free plan forever, paid tiers from $29/mo.
