Skool instead of school: why the K-spelling is intentional

Here's the why behind the spelling and a brief primer on the platform.

Why "Skool" with a K, not "school"

Skool.com chose the K-substituted spelling for brand distinctiveness and memorability. Brand naming with deliberate misspellings is common in tech (Lyft, Tumblr, Reddit) — the unique spelling is easier to trademark, easier to find via search, and harder to confuse with generic terms.

The K-spelling is also independently used in music, fashion, and cultural contexts ('old skool', 'skool boy') — those uses are unrelated to skool.com but share the same stylisation pattern.

What skool.com actually is

skool.com is a SaaS platform for paid online communities. Each community at skool.com/<handle> bundles a feed, courses, calendar, DMs, gamification, and Stripe payments. Founded 2019 by Sam Ovens. $99/month flat for owners; members pay whatever the owner set.

It's for adult-led paid communities — coaching, courses, masterminds. Not for K–12 schools or formal education.

Skool vs real schools — they're unrelated

Skool.com has nothing to do with K–12 education, school districts, school management software, school holidays, or any formal-education context. The shared spelling is coincidence — "Skool" is a brand, "school" is the institution.

For school-related searches (term dates, school management, classroom tools), use the standard 'school' spelling. For skool.com searches, use 'skool platform' or 'skool community' to disambiguate from cultural uses of the K-spelling.
