The Skool image-sizes cheat sheet
Quick reference (mostly stable across 2024-26):
- Community banner: 1584×396 (4:1 aspect ratio, ~16:4)
- Community profile photo: 400×400 minimum, square — appears as the round community icon
- Owner / member profile photo: 400×400 minimum, square — round avatar
- Course thumbnail: 1280×720 (16:9) — appears as the lesson card
- Course banner inside Classroom: 1920×1080 recommended
- Post images: any size up to 10MB per image, multiple per post supported
- Calendar event cover: 1280×720 (16:9)
- DM attachments: up to 10MB per file
File types: JPG for photographs (smaller files, good compression), PNG for graphics with transparency or text-heavy images, GIF for animations (large files, use sparingly), WebP is supported but JPG / PNG are safer for compatibility.

Profile photo — 400×400 minimum, square
Both your personal profile photo and your community's profile photo are square images displayed in round avatars. Skool crops to a circle — anything in the corners gets cut.
Dimensions: 400×400 minimum, 1000×1000 ideal for retina sharpness. Larger is fine; Skool auto-resizes.
What works:
- Faces centred for personal profiles (head and shoulders, slightly cropped)
- Logos / icons centred in the frame for community profiles
- High contrast against the avatar background colour Skool uses
What doesn't:
- Wide group shots — your face gets lost
- Logos with text near the corners (clipped by the circular crop)
- Low-res images upscaled — looks blurry on retina displays
Course thumbnails — 1280×720 (16:9)
Each lesson and module in the Classroom has a thumbnail card. These render as 16:9 rectangles in the lesson list.
Dimensions: 1280×720, 16:9 aspect ratio. 1920×1080 is also fine and ensures sharpness on retina screens.
What works:
- Clean text overlay with the lesson title (helps members navigate)
- Consistent visual style across all lessons in a course (cohesion matters)
- High contrast for readability
- Brand colours that match your community banner
Most successful Skool course thumbnails follow YouTube-style conventions — bold text, consistent branding, easy-to-scan visuals. If you have a graphic designer, lock down a single thumbnail template and reuse it for every lesson.
Post images — flexible, up to 10MB
Images attached to community posts have no fixed aspect ratio. They render at their native size up to the post container's max width (~720px on desktop, full-width on mobile).
Dimensions: any size, up to 10MB per image. Multiple images per post supported.
What works:
- 1200×675 (16:9) for landscape content
- 1080×1080 (1:1) for Instagram-style square posts
- 1080×1350 (4:5) for portrait-leaning content (looks slightly cropped on desktop, full on mobile)
- 1500-pixel-wide minimum for retina sharpness
What doesn't:
- Tiny screenshots (under 600px wide) — they look pixelated when stretched
- Massive 50MB raw photos — Skool may reject or your upload will fail
- Images with critical text near edges — mobile cropping varies
