Skool free trial: 14 days, full access, no surprises if you cancel right

Most of the noise online about "90-day Skool free trials" is from affiliate-promo links. The standard, official trial is 14 days. Here's the real picture.

How long the Skool free trial actually is

The standard, official Skool free trial is 14 days. You get full access to every feature on the platform during those 14 days — courses, community feed, paid memberships, calendar, DMs, mobile apps. There is no feature-gated trial; what you see is what you'd be paying $99/month for after.

On day 15, Skool charges the credit card you entered at signup the standard $99/month rate. There is no "50% off first month" discount, no "first month free if you stay" mechanic. It's a clean trial-then-bill flow.

You'll see references online to longer trials — 30 days, 60 days, even 90 days. Some of those are real (extended via affiliate or partner links — see below); a lot of them are misleading SEO content from years ago. The default trial today is 14 days.

What's included in the trial

Everything. The trial isn't a stripped-down version. During your 14 days you can:

  • Create a community at skool.com/yourname
  • Invite unlimited members (free or paid)
  • Connect Stripe and accept paid memberships immediately
  • Build courses in the Classroom
  • Run events on the Calendar
  • Send DMs and use the Chat
  • Use the iOS and Android apps

There's no member cap, no course cap, no message cap. If you want to stress-test the product with your real audience during the trial, you can.

The one thing to know: any paid members who join during your trial do go through normal Stripe checkout and you keep their payments. Skool's $99/month and Stripe's 2.9% + $0.30 are entirely separate. Stripe still takes its fee even during your trial.

Why a card is required at signup

Skool requires a credit card at trial signup. There's no email-only sign-up that lets you poke around. The card is authorised but not charged on day one — you'll see a $0 or $1 verification hold at most.

This is normal SaaS behaviour and exists to filter out test accounts and bots. It does mean you have to remember to cancel if you don't want to be billed. Calendar reminder for day 13 is the obvious move.

How to cancel the trial before day 15

Cancellation is done inside the Skool dashboard, not through email or support tickets. The path:

1. Log in at skool.com 2. Open your community settings (gear icon, top right of your community) 3. Go to the Billing tab 4. Click "Cancel subscription" 5. Confirm

Once you cancel during the trial, you are not charged. Your community goes read-only at the end of day 14. Members keep access to existing posts and lessons but can't post new content. You can come back, click resubscribe, and pick up where you left off — your data is preserved.

If you cancel after day 15 (i.e., after being billed), you keep access until the end of that billed month. Skool does not pro-rate refunds for partial months as of the most recent published policy, so cancel before the 14-day mark if you don't want to commit.

About the 90-day and 30-day trial offers floating around

Some affiliate partners do legitimately offer extended Skool trials — Sam Ovens has historically run 30-day or 90-day promo windows tied to a specific course launch or partner event. These are real but time-limited. If you click an affiliate link promising a 90-day trial today, two checks:

1. Does the Skool checkout page itself confirm the extended trial length? It should show "90-day trial" or similar before you enter your card. 2. Is the offer being made by a current Skool partner, not an old SEO post that hasn't been updated since 2022?

If either is unclear, assume the standard 14-day trial. Most of the "Skool 90-day free trial" content on Google is years old and the offer expired long ago.

If $99/month is the real issue

If you're hunting for an extended trial because the $99/month feels steep before you have paying members, the practical move is to stack two things:

1. Use the standard 14-day trial to set up your community properly — community page, courses, payment flow, first 5–10 members. 2. Use tools4skool's free tier ($0 forever — 1 automation sequence, 20 DMs/day) to automate the welcome and churn-saver DMs from day one. That's the difference between a community you have to babysit and one that runs itself.

If you can't get to $99/month of community revenue inside the 14-day trial, you probably don't have the audience yet — fix that before paying for community software.

Stop leaving DMs, churn, and revenue on the table.

tools4skool plugs the holes Skool ships with. Free plan forever, paid tiers from $29/mo.
